Manually resolve archive log gap/ Recover Standby / Manual Standby recovery

July 10, 2012

Recently i have implemented DR for one of my customer and due to various factors, few archive logs got missed. and tried the following method and resolved the issue.

1) Identify the list of  missing archive logs @ standby database.

SELECT   NAME  FROM   V$ARCHIVED_LOG  WHERE   DEST_ID = 1 AND SEQUENCE# BETWEEN &Low_Sequence AND &High_Sequence;

2) Manually transfer the archive logs from Primary to Standby server @ archive log location specific to standby database.

3) Cancel managed recovery in the STANDBY database @ standby database.

ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;

4) Start the manual recovery of the standby database.

RECOVER AUTOMATIC STANDBY DATABASE;

5) Put the STANDBY database back into managed recovery mode:

ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT;

6) Check that the archive redo gaps have been resolved byt running thie SQL on the STANDBY database:

select thread#, low_sequence#, high_sequence# from v$archive_gap;
